KMW Winter Weekend

Thanks to everyone who came to my workshops at KMW. I hope you had as much fun as I did. I thought I would make these lyrics part of the new website I was designing. but that has taken longer than expected. so without further ado....

Hard Times
1. Let us pause in life's pleasures
and count its many tears,
While we all sup sorrow with the poor:
There's a song that will linger
forever in our ears;
Oh! Hard Times, come again no more.

Chorus
'Tis the song, the sigh of the weary;
Hard Times, Hard Times, come again no more:
Many days you have lingered
around my cabin door;
Oh! Hard Times, come again no more.

2. While we seek mirth and beauty,
and music light and gay,
There are frail forms fainting at the door:
Though their voices are silent,
their pleading looks will say,
Oh! Hard Times, come again no more.

3. There's a pale drooping maiden
who toils her life away,
With a worn heart whose better days are o'er:
Though her voice would be merry,
'tis sighing all the day,
Oh! Hard Times, come again no more.

4. 'Tis a sigh that is wafted
across the troubled wave,
'Tis a wail that is heard upon the shore,
'Tis a dirge that is murmured
around the lowly grave,
Oh! Hard Times, come again no more.

Why Walk When You Can Fly (words and music by Mary Chapin Carpenter ©1994)

In this world there's a whole lot of trouble, baby
In this world there's a whole lot of pain
In this world there's a whole lot of trouble
But a whole lot of ground to gain
Why take when you could be giving, why watch as the world goes by
It's a hard enough life to be living, why walk when you can fly

In this world there's a whole lot of sorrow
In this world there's a whole lot of shame
In this world there's a whole lot of sorrow
And a whole lotta ground to gain
When you spend your whole life wishing, wanting and wondering why
It's a long enough life to be living, why walk when you can fly

In this world there's a whole lot of cold
In this world there's a whole lot of blame
In this world you've a soul for a compass
And a heart for a pair of wings
There's a star on the far horizon, rising bright in an azure sky
For the rest of the time that you're given, why walk when you can fly
